Had to smile at some of these comments and agree with lencops. Having lived in Australia for over 30 years some people can still detect the accent.

    Sheldon

Hi Dave, Yes, that's what I was hoping it would be. I thought Joseph may have occupied the 'smithy' after 1911 - guess I will have to wait for the next census, thanks Dave any info is welcome

    Sheldon

Yes Len, you are probably right. The Linforth family used the names Joseph b1855/6, Thomas b1821 and John b1791 over and over and I have found two entries + of each of these with same birthdates, born in Coleshill. The family were mainly shopkeepers, Blacksmiths and Saddlers. Think I will put...

Len, your information was really helpful, thankyou very much for your time and help with this. The person I am researching is Joseph Linforth b1856. It seems that the area of Eastern Bridge was the original settlement of Sheldon. The address on the 1911 Census is Sheldon Forge, Marston...

    Church Road, Yardley.

Thanks Lencops for the photo's. I have since discovered that the Linforth family also occupied no's 218 (Charles), 220 (Walter) as well as 226 (cycle shop) The 1911 Census shows William Linforth cycle shop owner as living at 218 and no record of 226 on the census. Maybe it was just used as a...

For all those replies and interesting comments, thanks. Google maps shows the shop at 230 but the no' on shop is 226 now a hairdressers/ barber's shop. This is just a few doors away from the address on the 1911 census that states 218 as the address W. Linforth lived at.Thanks kat

    Church Road, Yardley.

Margaret, How interesting, I would say that is the same shop, as a child I visited the shop twice it was fairly small, W Linforth came to live with us eventually and the remains of the stock was stored in our shed. I was in England recently but there was so much to do in a short time and this...

Could be a connection, the Linforth name is fairly unusal, I will try and look into that. Ironically my father W Linforth was a glazier for metro' Cammell Bickenhill, thanks for info

Read with interest your comments on Church Road, my grandfather lived at 218, he also owned a cycle shop in the early 1950's in the same road. His name was William Linforth. His wifes parents (surname - Horsley) lived in Church Terrace - opposite St Edburgha's Church, also in Church Road...

Hi Thanks for your reply. I ironically visited Dudley Hospital during a trip overseas 2 months ago and i saw the 'old work house' during my visit there. I am wondering when it changed from a work house to a geriatric facility? My Grandmother passed away there Ida Lippett was her name.

Hi I am trying to find out what the abbreviations in 'Western Road U.D' mean. I have found the information on a death certificate issued in 1939 in the County of Borough of Birmingham. I am wondering if this is a hospital?? Can anyone shed any light on this? It would be much appreciated.
