    Thanks Viv, always remember the great toast for some reason, must have been because of the sliced bread we had at home everyday, and an alternative to the usual tomato, cucumber and lettuce salad we used to endure.

    Yes that name I remember, I'm not sure exactly where it was, only remember going to both in the same vicinity, obviously not at the same time ! I also remember a great Wholefoods place opening by Lewis's, Prana I think, doing wholemeal toast and a great selection of salads.

    I think the Silversmith/Silvermaker is a T. Wooley of Birmingham which would coincide with the letter being a " D " making the year 1928-29.

    What happened to all the Tobacconists ? I remember a great one in Needless Alley, you could get Cigarette brands from all over the world i.e. French Disque Bleu and Gitanes, American Lucky Strike, Russian Sobranie wth the fancy gold tips, Turkish, etc. Lots of choice of tobacco blends for...

    Chelsea Girl on a Saturday was always a " must visit " on a Saturday after spending lunchtime in the Tavern in the Town, sad really. I guess it was Birminghams equivalent to Londons Biba but perhaps not on the same level.
