    Verse for Lyn "If"

This is the one I find very comforting. It helped me when my mum died last year and when a neighbour died recently I found a card with it on which his wife later said helped her too.

Back to The Blitz: The startling images that merge WWII bombings with modern images

Did any of you see this in today's daily mail? They've created montages which blend vintage black and white shots of the carnage of 1940 with colour images of the same locations today George St and Newton St are included in the pictures...

    Photo of women in white

Ooh well spotted, I'd missed that. I'm certainly glad I didn't have to do the washing in those days!

    Photo of women in white

The picture reminded me of one of my great grandmother with her husband and baby (my granddad who was born in 1912). I can date this picture via the dob of my granddad to just before WW1 if it's any help. The second picture shows just her with her son, so I guess either during the war or...

The Old Engine, Park Road, Hockley

Hi Astonion You've got me dad racking his brains now for your brother's surname...he's even rang his sister, Linda, but she can't remember either! Micky Dunne was dad's dj name, his real name is Michael Sydenham. Great to hear from you! Sarah

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

My dad was a dj (known as Micky Dunne) at the Ringway club, which was owned by the Malarky (not sure about spelling) brothers in the 60s. Although it was rough he was well looked after. They lent my mum and dad the money for a deposit on their first house. Stars like Lionel Blair and his...

The Old Engine, Park Road, Hockley

Hi all My dad wants to know if anyone can remember this pub, which was the local for the family when he was growing up (1950s - 1970s). Attached is a picture of his grandparents, Sarah and George Farley (not sure who the lady in between them is) inside the pub. Sarah

    handsworth school photographs

The picture of St Mary's is very interesting, my Granddad's older brother would have been there then. We have this picture from a few years later (not sure of the date but granddad was born in 1920 and you'll see he's pointed out in the picture (it's marked Gal, short for Garnet)).

    WALKER in Wood Lane, Woodgate

Hi I'm just wondering how/if this fits into my family tree. My GGGrandmother was Hannah Guest b1879. Her father was William Thomas Guest b 1847 he was living in Woodgate up until he gets married (he no longer lives there in the 1881 census). Prior to that his father William Guest b1820 is...

Kimberley - Live Bait Dealer, 1 Key Hill

That would make sense since she died in 1909 and he in 1912. I know they didn't live there in the 1881 census but did in the 1891 and 1901 census. In 1911 the house is listed on the census as number 2...there is no number 1. Thanks again Sarah

Ooh I'm not sure...I'm struggling to be certain who the parents (and siblings) where of Thomas Kimberley, if I can solve that I might be able to answer the question. Thank you so much for telling me. Sarah
