    Probate Query from 1700's

Yes Mike. Brilliant news. I've been puzzling over that line for quite some time and it means that I'm edging forward to confirming that this was the site of the original Greyhound in Court Lane.

Thank you Mike and Janice and thanks to Paul too. Really pleased with all this infomation.

    Probate Query from 1700's

Thank you both. That sounds exactly what I would like it to say. I'd like Methuselah to have a beer house.

    Probate Query from 1700's

This is the probate form for Methuselah Whitehouse who lived in Court Lane Erdington. I'm having trouble with the entry underlined in red. Could someone have a go at reading it for me please? Many thanks.

    Erdington Tramway Terminus

If my information is correct this flyer, which appears in Erdington Vol II by Peter Drake and Marian Baxter, was printed in 1900. This might explain the delay experienced by the writer of the letter in Pedro's cutting. I have looked through all the relevant trades directories that I could find...

May Ashford's Grave - Apparently the grave is in a very poor condition and the brickwork is now exposed so not long before that goes the same way. Nobody is looking after it as it's the family's responsibility not the church's. I have to go and search for another grave so I'll try to locate it...

    Old street pics..

Pedro, My Bartholomew's Atlas for 1933 has the pub on Shortheath Road so probably a year or so before that date. I have an earlier copy (when I can track it down) so will look in that. Strangely the pub is marked much further up Shortheath Road than I remember - I'm sure it was on the corner.

    ITS JOHN KNIGHT BIRTHDAY TODAY

    Happy Birthday John.

    Old street pics..

I think my problem is the path. I don't remember having any like the one in the picture as they were all cinder paths, black and crunchy to walk on. Oh, I do love a good mystery!

Jackie & Morturn, Looking at the new photos of 'Shortheath Park' I now think they could be of the green area along Turfpits Lane and that the building with the gate is the Golden Cross which was on the corner of Turfpits Lane and Shortheath Road. This would be before the shops and pre-fabs were...

    Castle Street

I think you're probably right about Mary's family but her grave is at Holy Trinity, Sutton Coldfield and I'll check this afternoon to see what's happened to it as there have been major renovations there lately. I need to look for another grave too so it may mean a trip up the hill.

    Old street pics..

I'll try to get down there just to satisfy my curiosity. There definitely wasn't a solid gate at the entrance in my memory but there's at least 20/25 years between this photo and when I would have been taking notice. They're all lovely pictures but I think the one on the bench is my favourite.

    The Wylde Green Public House

They don't seem to have moved forward much in the last couple of years. Still putting in planning applications which still say the same thing. Although I think they have had to amend parking spaces and the height of the building due to complaints from nearby houses. I'm going on the bus tomorrow...

Morturn, I think this must be Goosemoore Lane. There were roads only on two sides of the park and the other one was Court Lane. I'm thinking that the wooden gate may be the Goosemoor Lane entrance to Aston Unity cricket ground. What do you think?

    Old street pics..

Yes, a lovely picture. Morturn, the building behind looks like a business doesn't it? I'm trying to picture the park without the pre-fabs which were built post-war. The railings are right for the original park. I'll try to find a map.

    Broadfields House Lindenhurst House

(I thought I'd posted the following yesterday - sorry!) I'm totally confused Janice so will have to see what I can come up with. I've been to the Exotic Zoo in Telford today so I haven't had time to think about it. All very puzzling. Just another bit of interest, Louisa (Nicholls) came to...

Thank you for all the contributions to this thread. I'll carry on with the Broadfields/Lindenhurst thread now to avoid confusion.

    87 Cornwall Street

I haven't noticed this name before Pedro - do you have a date please? Although my visit to the library was a bit of a trial I did manage to get a map and have now got the date of Broadfields existence forward to 1927. I know that the access road, and probably the shops, were there by the late...

Lyn, I've sent for her will from the government website and that of her husband. I don't want to go to the expense of sending for a death certificate as it's really the house that I'm interested in. It just seemed strange but much clearer now I know who lived there thanks to Mike.

    Library Of Birmingham 2013

CARN (County Archives Research Network) cards are accepted at other archives as well as Birmingham and you can use your current one until it runs out. I got mine at Warwick RO. There is no picture on my card Mike. They took my photo when I was at the desk. Sort of waved a gun thing at me -...
