    High Street Erdington

Thanks Pedrocut, that seems much more likely. Also, the flags would have been for Edward VII's coronation wouldn't they? August 1902 - so typical English summer weather. Good picture.

Smashing picture Post #62 Lyn. I wonder where it was - I can't place it at the moment.

    St Paul's Square

Hi Efja_Joan, although no oral history to help you with, there are quite a few threads on this forum which mention St Pauls Square (I didn't put the ' in the search box) at the top right hand corner of the page. There may be something there or someone to contact. I worked in Cox Street in the...

    Erdington

This is a follow-on from my post #652 of 28th April 2022. I have finally got round to looking at the Bell & Cuckoo in Erdington. From a visit to Birmingham Archives I have discovered that the land was sold in 1866 and from reading 'Coaching City' by Howard Clayton (about Lichfield) the most...

    1911 census

One family I was tracing answered most questions differently to previous censuses and 'don't know' in the 'where born' column. I realised after a while that the parents were probably out and the children has answered the enumerator's questions.

    Picture re-touch

I realise a magic wand may be needed with this one but can anyone enhance/sharpen this picture from a newspaper please?

    Sutton New Road Erdington

There's a really atmospheric picture at the bottom of the page(see above) of a tram in the rain outside the Picture House in High Street. Just before the trams were re-routed via Sutton New Road I imagine.

    WW1 Service Records Question

Could you tell me where to look for details for this man who fought in WW1 and survived. I'm used to looking for soldiers who died but at a loss for those who survived. WHITEHEAD A.P. Station House, Chester Road. 1st City of Birmingham Battalion. Many thanks for ideas, pointers etc.

    Belmont Row

I wonder if Birmingham Waste was the man we used to collect what was left at the the end of a jumble sale in the 1970's. He recycled everything - mostly I think for cleaning rags in factories.

    Aston Hall

Hi Viv, the gateway faces the front of the hall but the building on the left looks as though it's to the side. Have I got my bearings wrong? I wondered if it could be the Grammar School? Unless it's a bit of artistic licence.

    Aston Hall

Good to know that they're opening a few more days Stokkie, thank you. Just wish there was a little more for visitors. The lovely formal garden to the side of the hall is usually well kept but even that has been neglected.

    Curzon Hall Suffolk St

Smashing photo Viv. I researched the Birmingham Boxers 1875-1900 some years ago and although this is just outside that time the names are familiar. I went to the newspaper archive while it was still at Colindale in London to read the Midland Sporting News for the 25 years, or at least those that...

    Aston Hall

We went last Sunday as we have museum memberships and like to pop in for a browse, coffee and perhaps buy something from the shop for our granddaughter. What a disappointment. The girl on the desk, said there was no shop except for a few books by the desk and some secondhand paperbacks for sale...

    Broadfields House Lindenhurst House

Hi Janice, I decided to revisit Broadfields House as I was due to visit Central Library to start research again this week but as you know events overtook us. I was hoping that Benjamin Stone had taken a photograph but all I've got so far is the wall with the bus parked outside! Firstly, I think...

    Electric Cinema Station Street

Lyn, I really don't know! I thought it was on the left of your picture. Or was that the old Rep? Perhaps that's what I'm getting mixed up with. Anything's possible at the moment. Just had a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Electric,_Birmingham which details the Electric's history...
