    Barbara Florence Newey

It turns out the main beneficiaries were already dead with no family. After all this time the solicitors have now passed this on to Fraser & Fraser, the TV heir hunters and we have to fill in their forms etc. By the time it's finished there will be nowt left for anyone other than the above...

    Hollingsworth Tobacconist Withers Tobacconist

I worked in every one of those shops mentioned above during the 1960/70's when i worked for shopfitters, we used to have to paint the entire little shop inside and out including the window while it was still open. usually there were two ladies and with us two painters there was not much room to...

    Nazareth House

So far the animal that grazed in the nazareh house field has been mentioned as being a Shetland pony and a donkey but our garden in tollhouse road had a clear view of the field. The animal in 1962 was a rather old horse and a vet was called to it when it was unable to stand up and we heard the...

    Bull Ring Indoor Market

My wife & daughter visited their favourite fabric store at the indoor market on Saturday. The owner told them that the ventilators by the meat section had been blocked up deliberately to cause a smell to put people off going in there as an excuse to close it down. They have to all leave next...

    Horse Fair

I remember the Horse fair vividly from 1961 onwards when I worked in bow street at the back of the Catholic church & school. Opposite there near the El Sombrero cafe on the same side of the road was the huge stone Horse water trough and I wonder what happened to it as it most have weighed...

    Bull Ring Indoor Market

The indoor market right next to the rag market is privately owned and is set to be demolished and a block of apartments will take it's place. My wife has been buying her fabrics from a store there and on Saturday owner Hasan informed her they have all had very short notice to leave. This will...

    Birmingham?

They are by a cobbled street which could be anywhere, the kids clothes look a bit scruffy but that not really a good clue, could be 1950's, the boys hair looks like an attempt to copy a pop star :D

    The Night Out, Holloway Head

I worked in Little Bow Street, the road directly behind and watched them from the upper floor as they demolished the old Catholic church and school and began building the Night Out and 4 level multi story car park right next door.

    Does nobody die anymore?

Pegged it and kicked the bucket etc are comical ones though but we are talking about when someone reports a death on TV or a forum etc. If TV announces for e.g that president Biden has just kicked the bucket then I can't imagine that would go down well :D

    Does nobody die anymore?

The American euphemism for death "passed" "past away" or even worse "passed on" has now become the norm, even newsreaders on TV seem to be using it and I have to ask why? A coroner for e.g. is not allowed to use such words and probably doctors also have to inform you a person has died and not...

    Hybrid & electric cars

I'm happy to stick with a hybrid which gives you the best of both worlds. My Prius easily does 80mpg on a run and the engine is off for more than 50% of any journey so although the car has done 24,000 the engine has run for less than half of that
