    Re: Anyone with Wimblett or Wimlett familily connections? We had as neighbours two brothers and their father called Wimlett when we lived in Lapworth, a third brother was killed during the war he was in the RAF.

    chocks2 Now that is interesting, the write up with those two photos states that it occurred on the Bulwark, to add, old mohawk posted that his brother in law who was on Bulwark at the time ( 1956 ) witnessed the incident, methinks more research is needed. Regards Darby.

    I have just read an interview with Ken Freeman of The Second City Sound, in it he confirms that Polly Browne was their female vocalist before going on to Pickettywitch.

    Anyone remember The Second City Sound they used to play at The Viking Lode Land Sunday lunch time, I always thought their vocalist went on to Pickettywitch but now I am not sure, does anyone know.

    I remember it well as the song goes, I was serving aboard HMS Glasgow at the time, we were berthed alongside in Cherbourg and listening to it on the radio, I can tell you there were a few Brummie Matelot's in tears too.

    In Birmingham and the rest of the country for all I know it was also referred to as the horse road because at one time that's exactly what it was, a horse road.

    My father's family are proud Salopians and in my younger days I spent a lot of time there, I always pronounce it Shewsbury.
