    Cemetery Plans/diagram

Hi Shortie, Yep, you might be right there, although if there are plans of any kind, it wouldn`t take much effort to photocopy them, which is what Witton, Brandwood End, and Lodge Hill, all do. I was actually given this; Y10/1, which was section 1, and the plot number as Y10, but I saw no graves...

    Cemetery Plans/diagram

Hi all, I know this is not strictly to do with Birmingham, but I have tried on a couple of the local forums and had no response. I am after a map or diagram, of Redditch Cemetery, Bordesley Road. I have been to the cemetery and asked for one, but they did`nt have any, and there are a couple of...

    The Mountaineer, Kings Heath

Hi Astonian, Yep, your right, on nearly everything there. I`ve said it before, but at one time, the locals from the bar, including me, used to be able to take our dogs in there and as long as they were kept under control, there was never any problem. I`ve known it in there with five or six...

    The Mountaineer, Kings Heath

Hi all, I used to use the `Mount` for years, but like a lot of pubs now, the drugs got into them and they don`t seem to last long then, but it WAS a really good pub once. There was a character who was always in there, who was nicknamed, `Vic the Viking`, he used to give everyone a nickname, ( I...

    Church escape route?

Hi morturn, Thanks for your comments, I have to admit I`d never thought of it being a wreath rack, but yes, it does make sense, perhaps those bars were never strong enough to have stopped a determined robber, even when original. I`ve had a quick look through some of your shots on flickr, and I`m...

    Church escape route?

Hi Rosie, Thanks for replying, and for the info` about the Mortsafes. I`ve just looked on Wikipedia, and there, it says the Mortsafe was invented about 1816, and that in some cases, they were left in place over a grave for 6 weeks, when the body inside would be, "sufficiently decayed", and then...

    Church escape route?

Hi all, I`ve just got back from taking pictures of St Nicholas` Church, Loxley, Warwickshire - as part of my family came from that village - and I came across this `trench`, which ran along outside of the main body of the church, and appeared to go underground. The drop was about, 4-foot, but I...

    Hats off to Witton cemetery!!!!

Hello Les, I echo your sentiments about Witton Cem`. A couple of years ago now, I responded to a photo request from Sussex, for a grave in Witton. I emailed them the details I had been given, and within a day, I got back the location, number - everything I needed, they even told me to use my car...

    Matelots pals

I found this picture among my Fathers belongings, he was R.N. too, so I assume these were some of his mates. I was wondering if anyone recognises any of them, there is no indication on the back. If anyone does know any of them, I would be very happy to forward a copy f.o.c. cheers, cresser.

Re: Dorothy Cresswell, nee, Smith Barrie & Maurice, Many thanks for replying to my post - and I know what you mean about a surname like Smith, nightmare !. Maurice, I`ve come across the name, Lunt, myself, but like you, it was only a guess, but I`m going to get in touch with Liverpool and see...

    Cresswell Dorothy , nee, Smith

I am trying to find out where Dorothy Smith was born. On her death certificate, it records her birth as, 10th June, 1926, but it then just says, `England`. On 23rd November 1946, Dorothy married Leslie Cresswell, my uncle, at Wallasey Register Office, and her address at the time being 151...

    Kings Heath Football Team-1939

(I have reinstated my picture, hacked by some twerp) - Would anyone recognise any of these lads. I only know one of them, the lad at the extreme right, back row - he`s my Dad, John Cresswell. He lived in Silver Street, Kings Heath. On the back is written the year, `1939`, and the name, `Alan...

Hi Shera, Thanks for your reply, sadly, I don`t think the 1916 `Dot`, is the one, I am certain her birth year was 1926 - the search goes on.............................. I would like to thank you for taking the time and trouble to look, I do appreciate the efforts people have made, and still...
