    Johnson

Hi Loulou. I had a look at the 1841 census and I think that the son John aged 30 could be William, he wouldn't be the first man to be called differently than we expect. John or Johnny being a diminuative for Johnson. So that Benjamin is Edwins grandfather. A William Johnson was Christened in...

    Coates Ernest

Re: Ernest Coates When you go to the Library Brock, ask to see the book of newspaper cuttings of coroners reports. There will have been a coroners inquest, the papers are held by the coroners office but there is a closure period, I think of 100 years which means you won't be able to see them.

The memory I have of air raids is possibly of that night, mom and me always went into a neighbour's shelter and I think some one wanted to go to the loo so the candle had to be put out before the shelter door was opened and there was a dash up the garden path. Luckily the loos were of course...

I don't have any knowledge of the Barrel but my Gran Worrall was born in the lane in 1876 although her parents lived in St Andrews Road just a hop away. Another Gran, Sarah Carter lived there for a time in her Widowhood, in the 1840's, she was a Greengrocer. So if by any chance there are...

It used to scare me stiff when mom opened the bedroom window, leand out and then sat down and pulled the upper sash on to her lap. Very often a neighbour would pass and shout up to her, so she would turn as far as she could and hold a conversation. Pheeeeeeeeeeww

This is a bit light weight after reading of jabs for swine flu. However I digress, I was in town today walking toward the shoe repairer with my winter boots under my arm. I have always walked one side of a heel down and suddenly I could see my dad in his shed with three or four lasts on his...

In 1841 my 3 x gt grandfather lived in Sheepcote Street, occupation Boat Builder. I would think that although there is no mention of Joseph Cotterell in the directories, there was a boat building business close by as there are other men shown as boat builders and living in Sheepcote Street. My...
