    Where is This ? #200

There seem to be an awful lot of lights around the building, so I'm guessing a public building of some sort, maybe a Police Station. Steelhouse Lane?

    City And Midland Arcades

As there is a turn, or a 'T' junction, in the didtance this would make it part of the 'City Arcade' a small section of which survives from Union Street to Warwick Passage/Union Passage. Bill

    City Centre Photographs

Great photo and a lot of the buildings still standing, which is even better. Given the date and what appears to be a fairly low altitude maybe it would have been taken from an airship?

    Temple Row

I'm guessing these are rare photographs as the bomb damage in Birmingham was played down at the time due to the effect it may have had on the rest of the country, due to the massive manufacturing output from our area[covered elsewhere on the forum I believe]

    Hunters Moon Castle Bromwich

I was a 'regular' in the Hunters' from 1970 for a good few years, first in the "International Lounge" under the managers' accomodation, [the two storey bit at the back]. The topless barmaids were in the function room on Sunday lunchtimes in the mid/late 70's, then the pub underwent a mini...

    Grand Hotel Colmore Row

Great news, just what is needed for the New Year. Let's all show our support for 'saving' this iconic building, if indeed that is the proposal.

    Temple Row

I believe it is purely the direction the arcade faces from Corporation St.

Post Office Vaults pub ( Royal Mail)

I understand Nigel, of 'The Wellington' fame, and ANOther are opening the venue and there will be 8 real ales plus Real cider and perry plus 50 Belgian bottled beers available. Well that's me sorted for Christmas and New Year!

    Temple Row

Dennis, I have only just come across this thread on the Forum and it is facinating. Not sure if you remember me, I knew your Dad and delivered milk to Union Chambers for some years to him and yourself and later your Brother in Bennetts Hill. I seem to remember my Father first delivered to Union...

    Hardware Shops

All, We still have a wonderful hardware emporium on Bearwood Road, can't remember the name, but it's between 'The Bear' and what was 'The Barleycorn'. Bill.

Name of pub on Great Hampton Street

Lucy, There's a pub just along the road 'The Lord Clifden' or up the road opposite which is 'The Brown Lion'[recently re-opened] or along from there 'The Jewellers Arms]. Bill.

Then and now pics of brum

ell, must disagree with you as Waterloo House sits alongside Christ Church Passage and the church was on the opposite side, where the 'Floosie' now resides! There were three buildings built on the site of Christ Church Central House with its main entrance on New Street, Winchester House with its...

    Ward End Hall School

Brumbrumbrum!, A little bit late I'm afraid as I have only just come across this post, so too late for your reunion. I too went to Ward End Hall Modern School, as it was originally known, in Northleigh Road. I joined in 1959 the year after it opened as a new school and left in 1964 having stayed...

    Grand Hotel Colmore Row

The cynic in me has been saying for years that they have hung all those tons of scaffold on the building to help it collapse, then the developers can get in there and get their own way and ruin another piece of our wonderful buildings heritage. Our City, allegedly, is short of hotels as the...

    Wellington Bomber WWII BBC4 Tuesday14Sept;

I was at the RAF Museum, Cosford at the week-end. They had a Wellington on view under restoration, presumably the other one talked about on the TV programme, which is normally behind locked doors.

Alum Rock Rd - Ward End area

I seem to remember the Aish family used to live down the road from me, next to the Methodist Church on Washwood Heath Road opposite the Swan pub.

    Pop - Drink

Anyone remember 'Cheethams' pop? It came in larger bottles than normal and not too many shops sold it. I used to have to walk round to a shop in Aston Church Road on a Sunday morning to get our weekly supply, it was heavy too, usually included an orange, an ice cream soda[may have been an...

    Sir Digby Jones

We are all entitled to our opinions, after all we are a free country. I have known Sir Digby' and met and spoken with him and listened to talks/speeches by him. I found him to be not only a very, very, proud Brummie and more than able to direct anyone to New Street, station or street, but...
