Hi could I ask would this be the sub registration district of St Peters on the 1841 census.I could not read the street name but it looks to be an Irish community.

Thank you Rupert its hard to believe that the Duddeston/Saltley area was ever like this. I never knew this area just passed through on the bus and of course it was very run down in those days.But its been good to read of how it was all those years ago.

Thank you all for your replies The gentleman living in St James street in 1841 I thought he may have been quite well off as his occupation was a gentleman.The descendants of this line stayed around this area and they were working class some working for the railways. Thanks for the map its good...
Thank you Mossg for that lovely picture of Loveday Street Hospital the best I have seen. My sister was born there in 1945 and I could remember sitting outside by some railings but all the pictures to date never had railing so I though I had made up the memory but thanks to your picture I can see...
I have an address of St James Street on a marriage certificate (1843) would this have been in the area of this church if it was would it have been an affluent area or working class. Thank you.
Thanks JohnO my Crumps lived in Aston they came from Bromesgrove I do know there were quite a few Crumps in the west Bromwich area but not related I don't think.

I could not imagine anything more boring than spending my working life making nails. I found ancestors from Bromsgrove all the adults had this employment it must have been sole destroying.I can see why they moved to Birmingham.
I have looked on street view and found Hall Road Saltley I was wondering if anyone would know if the older houses with bay windows are the houses that would have been there in about 1913.Number 19 was the house I am interested in. Thank you.
