Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

I was never one to visit night clubs, but saying that, I do have memories of two that my wife and I visited, but I cannot recall the name of either. One was in town when Bill Haley and his Comets played for three Saturday out of five. One in Brum, then one away and back again. We managed to get...

I was on very friendly terms with the son of the owners of this small chocolate factory, had some good rejects from there. Jiggered if I can remember his name now. It's been a long time.

    Royal visits to Birmingham

The only Royal visit I can remember is while at Ryland Road School. Cannot remember the year, but we were all marched down to Tyburn Road, to watch King George and Queen Elizabeth drive past, must have taken all of a few seconds to go by.

    Slade Road Service Garage

This picture was taken in August 1958. I can remember the date clearly because had just been demobbed from the army in June after National Service and went back to my old job at Slade Road Service Station, Slade Road, Erdington. Stayed on for another year after this then changed to a driving job...

    Upper Webster Street

Here is a section of an old map I have of the area around Upper Webster St. Our back houses were where the "ST" is of Upper Webster Street. A lot of our daily shopping was done in that corner shop, and we became friends with the owners.

    National Service

Any ex driver remember these. I passed my driving test on one. Austin K9, this one I owned a few years back. When I bought it, it had on the odometer only 1100 miles from new. I did some research and found that it was true. Kept it for about three years then got rid, too expensive to run.
