    Upper Webster Street

Can anyone tell me where I can get a detailed map of the top end of Upper Webster Street. I'm looking for the details and plan of the courtyard behind number 43, which is on the right hand side looking up the road towards the top. Thanking you in advance. Ray

Health and safety in the 1950’s

As a lad when my older brothers were doing their national service, they would on occasions bring home a few of the military thunderflashes that were used on army training. Great fun tying one to a housebrick, lighting and dropping into water, made a hell of a bang with a goodly shower to go with...

    Bridges over the River Cole

The mention of that Bailey bridge and Packington Avenue brought back a few memories. Been over that bridge many times, also my brother Jim and his wife Joan and family lived in Packington Avenue. First in that house too. Happy days.

    National Service

Smudger,My older brother Fred (Long gone now) fought with the Ghurkers in Italy. He has told me that story more than once, so it could be true, he even told me that they bring back the enemies left ear of proof of the killing. All sounds a bit grusome, but could easily be true.

......., and the guys making bricks. I was one of those guys making the bricks, well not so much making as delivering them all over the Midlands. Worked there for about two years, bloody hard work too. No machines to help, all the bricks were handballed off the lorries.

    Steam and Commercial Vehicles

When I were a nipper, I lived on Gravelly Hill, opposite The Mount. When the fairs ended at Aston, they travelled over Salford Bridge to go along Tyburn Road, I used to nip down the hill and stand on the corner and watch the old traction engines go by, each one usually towing 3 or 4 trailers...

    A visit to the Doctor.

One or two on here claim to have the best Doctors, can they beat this. When we were living in Brum in 1968, our 18 month old son Darren was poorly. Doctor came, took one look at him, then immediately whipped Darrens nappy off and stuck his face almost into the contents and took a great big...
