Free courses in Birmingham and Surrounding Areas?

The "Birmingham History Forum", is a great site. I've seen many odd questions asked and out of no where comes an answer. My advice to you is don't be afraid to ask what may seem to be a stupid question. I myself was born in Hockley 1952, I can be seen at odd times walking around the old...

    Bread and Dripping

The dripping sarnies or if you took a little more time dripping on toast were great. Is it something kids would eat today? They have no idea what they are missing. Nick Phillips :)

Warstone Lane, Key Hill Cemetery meeting on Sunday 8th October 2023.

I remember in the early 1960's walking down Warstone Lane when the street lighting was gas lamps holding my mothers hand tight, very tight. Gas caused shadows. I was so pleased when we reached Hingeston St. Nick Phillips

    Handsworth New Road School

I was at H N R boys school from 1963-1967. I had good days and number of difficult ones. I remember when in the first year swinging on two legs of the chair working how old I would be if I lived to the year of 2000, I knew no one could live to that age (48). Now at the age of seventy one (71)...

Hingeston Street, I've just returned from Hingeston Street with a 1995 A-Z on my lap.. In the 60's HINGESTON St, going out of the city would go from Icknield St up too All Saint's Rd. Now at Knightston Ave the road now turns right ( in the 60's this was George St West ) the school on your...

    Canals of Birmingham

Richard, I've never walked the area around Golden Hillock Rd. I'm not going to dispute your statement and I will admit that I've a little unsure at times. I just hope that I never have to think one day "you told me so". I did enjoyed when the bus strike was on, I walked into and out of town...

Hi YGB, I'm a Brookfields / Hockley lad myself. What was your fathers name, where did he live. I moved from the area in1968 after a house fire. After all these years I still enjoy a walk in the area. I feel at home in the area. Nick Phillips

    Gunmakers Arms. Bath St.

Mikejee, just reread your comment regarding floor space. I've drank in both pubs for many years the floor space In the Gunmakers even without the brewery is much larger. But I still enjoy both pubs for different reasons . Nick Phillips

    Canals of Birmingham

I enjoy walks along the canals. I also enjoy art. I'm happy to look at art that I would not have at home. The graffiti on this wall, just spoils the "look of bridge". The time and cost of removal is very expensive. I would never try to force my ideas of art on to any one, I don't think anyone...
