    Double Zero Club

Well I've had my share of rice burners and took one to 120 mph on that nice straight road leading to Kingsbury mill, but I slowed down a lot approaching retirement; realising I had never had a serious mishap; and maybe my luck might run out. So the Harley suits me fine... i have owned it 21...

    Double Zero Club

Thanks for your speedy reply Windsor. Regretably I only visited the Double Zero once, when I was taken there in 1964 on the back of my mates ( Derek Prentice ) Triumph 21. I had no bike then as the old man did not like them and thought they were dangerous. Can't think why. I lost touch with...

By gum your'e right. I have put in a comment on an earlier page saying that Stirchley Motor Cycles had the half pig on the wall, but seeing your picture jogged my memory. I used to buy Reliant spares from Tafts, but usually when I visited them I would take a look at what Stirchley Motor Cycles...

I traded my Dell Boy van in there in 1974 for a new Reliant Rebel 4 wheeler in white. NOM 952 M. Great little car.

Yes, it had been Motor Sales that moved from Gosta Green. I bought a tin of Link Life chain grease from there and used to heat it up on my mother gas stove to soak the drive chain of my Matchless in.

    Motorcycle Shops

I nearly bought a 750 Norton Atlas from Onslows but they would not allow me to test ride it, even using their trade plates. I think my next bike was a Sprite Grasshopper trials bike bought in kit form from a bike shop near the Capital Cinema in Ward End. I was allowed to assemble it in my...

    Motorcycle Shops

Regarding the bike shop near Solihull Ice Rink, this was Solihull Motorcycles on Hobbs Moat. The salesman was Terry, a nice guy who sold me 3 new bikes, gloves, waterproofs etc. I also bought a 600 Yamaha Diversion from there when that bike first came out. When I took the Yamaha in for it's...

    Motorcycle Shops

The dealers at Fox and Goose was Kings. They had 2 shops there one sold bikes and the other round the corner on Coleshill Road sold spares. I was with a lady called Val today at our local coffee morning. Val was a young blond girl working at Kings back in those days, now retired like me...

    Motorcycle Shops

I used to buy odd bits from V O and Castrol R at 5/7 a pint. One of the sales assistants was a lad called Richard who used to race motorcycles sponsored by V O...... lucky begger. I still have a tobaco tin full of solderless nipples and chain links and fibre washers.

Yes, I bought a Suzuki 80 from there in 1968, and a white Dell Boy plastic pig van ( AOA 554 K ) in 1974. The salesman was a Mr Partridge for both sales.

What was the name of the skinny long haired guy at Cole's ? I had a Suzuki 80 in 1969 and went there to look for a bigger tank to make the bike look different. He sent me on my own up into the attic to have a look at the old tanks up there. I found a nice maroon Triumph Speed Twin tank...

The REd House was mostly a second hand spares dealer. I bought a few odd bits from there like a toolbox for my 1952 Matchless 500 single.

Stirchley Motorcycles.... I nearly bought a 750 Harley Davidson from there in the late 60's but it had a burnt out exhaust valve and I did not want to wait for a replacement to be sourced from America, so I gave it a miss. Wish now that I could have bought it and kept it.

Yes, I bought a new Honda CD 175 from there, and they also had a branch on Hobbs Moat, Solihull where I bought 3 new bikes from; a Suzuki GN 250, a BMW K75 tourer and a Honda CB 500. I now own a Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster which I have had for 21 years.

    Ward End Park

This was Jack Newett, an ex-boxerwho I remember having tea with in his hut from time to time when I was a Parks Patrol officer in the early seventies. Jack had been a dog handler for the Parks Dept. keeping the dog in a kennel at Ward End Park but one day the Parks Dept called him to the office...

    Valor Heating

Was there a 'bridging' section of the factory over the canal joining two parts of the factory ? I remember walking along the towpath in the late 1970's I think it was, when the canal was drained for repairs. There were loads of white plates and saucers in the...
