Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

It's just a pity that the filming couldn't be based here seen as the story is. On the other hand, I s'pose, it says summat that we haven't got enough dumps left to fit the location demands.

"Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you..." - Paul Simon. I think we all know what you mean by your nostalgia but, to be blatantly candid, I think you're better with your memories rather than seeing the reality of the changes as I'm willing to guess they'd make you cry.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

Yup, David. We also caught a shot of Water Street and at least one Brummie accent. So, it'll be interesting to see how this flp round from "Peaky B" turns out.

Hi Mike, Does that really mean you'd "just like to drown in those blue eyes?" :anonymous:

    negatives

I spent a whole winter scanning old slides and negatives with my Epson scanner. As said, a lot of these scanners come bundled with the software to take out the worst of the scratches and specs. However, if I only had a few to do I'd drop into Jessops or Jacobs with them.

I would like to share this with you.....

Tom is just one of a whole generation that is too often and unfairly maligned. It's good to advertise the good side of young people today instead of labelling them all the same as the no good minority.

Yeah, there's always summat going on and, because we learn nothing from history, nothing changes - it's still the same today. :blue:

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

Re: the peaky blinders Having now seen the whole episode on iPlayer I've got a better idea of what it's all about - Catherine Cookson meets Gangs of New York, meets The Untouchables, meets Harry's Game, meets Bonny and Clyde, meets Godfather with a little bit of Charles Dickens thrown in for...

But what's that lady got on her head, a chamber pot? There's some cracking pictures there Bernie. I particularly like the composition of #3207 and the lighting in #3210 is incredible.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

Re: the peaky blinders I suppose it's no different to any other programme. F'instance we have Emmerdale set in a part of Yorkshire where very few people have Yorkshire accents, Corrie set in Manchester, Lancashire where those with any northern accent are from Liverpool or Yorkshire, Holby where...

Does anyone know where Moat Row is in Birmingham? I know Moat Lane and Moat Street but the "Row" is a mystery to me.

    Items that have faded away

I remember the Co-op milkman's horse biting me when I was only trying to give it a bit of bread. And, if my recollections are correct, I believe our own postie (the boss) had one shot outside his house.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

Re: the peaky blinders Due to other commitments I only saw the last bit and, from what I saw, I wasn't terribly impressed. However, like brummie nick, I'll give it another go next week.

Hi David, Yes, you're quite right. Thanks for the clarification. I was having a "senior moment", they were telex machines. You never hear of them now!

    Items that have faded away

Anyone remember the old fax machines which operated on a punched paper ribbon? They cost a fortune and took up the space of a small car.

I remember the screever in Eden Place. He always had a little terrier with him. Some say he was one of the richest men in Brum and was picked up by a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce the end of each day's "work". I always thought it a shame that his work wasn't permanent. Btw, I would question the...
