Hello Young Fella, I was once in Aston Park with my older brother having a bit of a gang fight when he ordered me to go home in case I got hurt. I picked up a stone and threw it at him and unfortunately it hit him in the earhole. I can still hear him shouting after seventy years, 'You Yampy...

I may have mentioned this before but when the German bomb came into our Anderson shelter mom dragged us out and we went over to the shelter under the brewery which was in the next street. The trip was quite lively even though a little short. People were singing and there was a man on the piano...

I can remember the trams flying down the road from Aston Cross to Aston Bridge at what seemed a thousand miles an hour in the thirties. Sparks and all. Courtyards and yards of brum

I walked so many of these yards as a small boy with my father carrying bagas of coal on his back. The smoggy background, the coal cellars, entries, pailing fences and the most beautiful people you could ever wish to meet. Thank you so much for sharing memories not hidden very deep as I found out...

    Slade Lane Roughley

Pamela, I'm not sure if this will make you think I'm mad but I always knew it as Slade Road, on the way towards Canwell. Perhaps if you investigated using Road instead of Lane you may get some better information. Regards, David, Aston and Mere Green.

    The Blitz

The bloke who was bragging about bombing Birmingham, Old Boy, just proves that even in old age a person can still be two bricks short of a barbecue. Sad in a way but true. Regards, David.
