Marriage licences for birmingham area - not certificates or parish records.

For the information of others looking for Marriage Licences and Bonds (and I highly recommend them as excellent sources of additional information regarding early ancestors), here is the definitive reply from the Library of Birmingham. This reply to my email took 3½ weeks to arrive mind you...

Thanks Bewdley, that is useful. I have looked at KN, Moseley and Northfield without success, so will try the others. Best wishes Jane

Just to add a bit of extra detail to Andy PARKES' reply above, St Nicolas Burial records on Ancestry finish in 1922. St Mary, Moseley finishes in 1850, St Laurence, Northfield in 1856 and St Bart's, Edgbaston in 1887. There are of course, a number of other Birmingham and Aston Churches listed...

Thanks Colin. I think All Saint's may be Victorian, but I don't know if there was an earlier church on the site. Best wishes Jane

Hi Shortie, Yes, I have found some BMDs for Birmingham Churches do not feature at all in the Ancestry images, and some, for example St Mary's Moseley, finish stupidly early (in 1850 in the case of St Mary). I also know, from talking to people at the BMSGH Office, that there are some big errors...

    Molesworth Oliver

Hi Janice, Yes, it is Worcestershire and King's Norton Reg. District, and I am pretty sure that that is the case regarding records not being there, which is why I have been unable to locate the burials on Ancestry. The images of Parish Records on Ancestry are only of any use for elimination...

    Molesworth Oliver

Thanks for the suggestion Shortie. I have looked on Ancestry, and again, they have the Burial records for St Nicolas, King's Norton online. And I have checked but there are none of my MOLESWORTHs buried there for the period. Unfortunately, I don't know where exactly the family lived in King's...

    Molesworth Oliver

I have one of my many MOLESWORTH family strands, living in King's Heath in the early 19th Century. An Oliver MOLESWORTH (one of several in my family and born in Coughton, Warwickshire in c1793) married Elizabeth JAMES (born in Sambourne) in St Martin's in February 1812. Oliver was a Shoemaker...

Marriage licences for birmingham area - not certificates or parish records.

I have read about this subject on other postings in this and other areas of the Forum, but I wonder if anyone can help me with a current position on this please. I know that for all 'Warwickshire' bits of Birmingham, old Marriage Licences appear in the Bonds and Allegations held in Lichfield...

HÉBERT Paul Marie Jean Francois and HÉBERT Frances Mary nee JAMES

Just an update for Paul Stacey and any other Brummies interested in the story of the HÉBERTs. Michaële, her husband and children are coming to visit us here in Devon on Friday, whilst on holiday in England. Another cousin is travelling down from Monmouth to join us. We have already had a lot of...

HÉBERT Paul Marie Jean Francois and HÉBERT Frances Mary nee JAMES

Dear Michaële and Jacques, I was amazed and totally bowled over to see your posts to me about the HÉBERT connection to my JAMES line. I am wondering how you discovered my question on this forum, but it is wonderful that you have done. I am a very keen family researcher, I have done a huge...

Two teenaged STEEL PEN "GLAZIER"s:- Please can anyone help me identify the trade?

To wam, Morturn, pjmburns and BernardR, I am always amazed, and never EVER disappointed, by the kindness and the persistence of my fellow Brummies when faced with a problem question. I think you have cracked it! I agree with Bernard, that the bob and glazer answer sounds right on the money. So...

Two teenaged STEEL PEN "GLAZIER"s:- Please can anyone help me identify the trade?

In the 1851 Birmingham Census, my relative Thomas BROOMFIELD was a Master Baker living at 24, Pigott Street, St Thomas. In the household were his 2 teenaged step-daughters, Ann and Betsey. Their trade is described as "STEEL PEN GLAZIER". I am pretty sure of the final word, though I am open to...

Certainly odd, but again, it is really useful because it confirms the date. Many thanks. Jane

Studio Of Frank Scott & Co Of 17, Bennett's Hill.

Hi Mike, This is brilliant. So STURGES, present 1880-1882 was there from 1879, and SCOTT in 1878. This really narrows the window dramatically. Yes, as you say, there is the time lag of up to a year (the time taken to collect, collate and print the Directory). But I do now have a really small...

Studio Of Frank Scott & Co Of 17, Bennett's Hill.

I am in the process of documenting a wonderful collection of old family photos of my Brummie family, but have 2 which I cannot identify. I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give me about the studios, which may assist in narrowing my options. The 2 pics are of an elderly couple...

Annie 'Nance' MORRIS and the Boys Home she founded: Can You Help Identify It Please?

Re: Annie 'Nance' MORRIS and the Boys Home she founded: Can You Help Identify It Plea Thanks MWS, what a really interesting site. It is clear that there were several homes in Birmingham at the time I think Annie and her husband were working. The site does not give me any definitive answers, but...
