If my memory serves me, the Japanese crab was in a glass case on the wall, above a door I think. It was 60 years ago when I last visited, it all looks so modern inside now. We have to be thankfull that such a wonderfull building still survives.
Spent hours in the late 50,s early 60,s exploring the art gallery and museum. Things that stand out were the sphinx as you went in then the fantastic tiger in the glass case and the massive Japanese crab. The whole building had it,s own smell, never noticed it in other museums! After the art...

Excellent photographs Elliot, seems the place is as interesting as ever. I recognized a few of the items particularly the Budhha, how many times have I touched that outstretched hand!

Was Proof house the box on the the right at the top of the grade from the tunnels. If it was we had a look round it when it had been closed and stripped out. The local vandals had been in there but I did find an old train register in all the rubbish on the floor but I think it was from the early...
It got its name from the stetchford line embankment near the Derby line. That was the thrill of spotting in those days, you never knew what was going to turn up. When the Bullieds turned up in Birmingham on the football specials was one of the more spectacular I remember. I saw them from the...
