    Key Hill chapel before demolition

Hello Wendy We have an interment in 1864 in P just up and opposite side of the path from our "next door" graves. I'll have a look at the records and see if I can map it out. David

    Key Hill chapel before demolition

Mohawk Wendy I have no recollection of a cobbled pathway but do remember at the rear of the Chapel there was some form of office or rooms. I visited almost every Saturday during the 50’s up to about 1958 and thereafter only every few months until about 1961. Then not again until early in the...

Telephone history: Telephone Service in Birmingham

I thought OBS were the failures detected by Observation Operators and a formal company measure. Call Senders detections were classified as routine faults but not recorded against Quality of Service statistics?

    Key Hill chapel before demolition

Wendy Do you know when the last photo was taken it looks in the foreground like the vicinity where our ancestors are now neighbours? I remember the Chapel/Temple as being an offwhite colour maybe creamish in the 50's---if my memory is correct. Carrying lead lined coffins was a hazard I remember...

    Stories and time-swinging the lamp???

My mother-in-law told stories for many years about military incidents she was involved in during WWII. Like many family stories you are never sure of the facts and the imagination!! Briefly the story ran like this: She was a telephonist/plotter in a bunker (Command Post) located near Dover. Her...

    Booths Farm

I lived on the Beeches as a child just off Beeches Road near the brook. There was an exhibit in Blakesley Hall of some of Booths "coins". My mother took me there several times to see them as she had explained the history of the farm and locality. Don't know if they are still on exhibition as I...

    "Where there's waves there's water"

"Where there's waves there's water" Often used by my mother, (even when she was over 100) usually about anyone with any form of wave in their hair when they said or did something silly----water instead of brains!! DJRVST

    Airships over Birmingham ?

My mother saw a Zeppelin over Birmingham in WW1. People did indeed run out into the streets. I posted such in the WW1 section if you wish to have a look.

    Perry Hall Park

I remember the railway but not the lake ---just proves what memory is like---the "video player" in my head must need attention. I have not been in the park since the mid 60's when playing football over the far side near the railway. I was told about the river about five years ago by a relative...

    Crematoriums

Yes that is so. Two signatures required prior to arrangements being confirmed. Both off site. The coffin is sealed before being taken to the crematorium. It remains sealed at the crematorium and it is not permitted to open it. All cremations take place the day of the funeral. Ashes are available...

    Perry Hall Park

I don't recall Perry Hall having a large boating lake---there was one in Perry Barr Park. The photographs of the paddle boats are much as I recall them in the 50's. I fell in once ensuring my grey woollen knitted swimming trunks absorbed about 50% of the available water. There was also a small...
