Bobby Budgie - An emotional Brummie says goodbye to his old friend

Oh Blacksmith. How we can echo how you feel on losing Bobbie.:crying2: We have had budgies too throughout our life, and they do so become close friends. I remember when I was little, we had a blue called Peter, and he was so much my budgie. One day he followed me out of doors and we thought we...

    Hop-picking

Graham. Have just read your story, and have shed a tear for the love and fortitude your family showed. How hard it must have been for your mom in those days. I realise how lucky I was, having been born after the war, and also the youngest child. The others were a lot older than me. I used to go...

    Sunday School.

Yes my memories were always good too. We used to sing at what I thought was the Harvest Festival. (My memory is not as good as it was lately) Me English has gone off as well, as I remember now it was the Baptist Church on Hunton Hill. One of my children was in the cubs or scouts, I can't...

    Sunday School.

Do you remember the days when we went to Sunday School every week? Dave and I were discussing the times when we used to be made to go every sunday afternoon. He said he and his sister used to trudge off every Sunday just so his Mom and Dad could have some free time. He said they hated it! He...

    First Record Bought?

I was 17 when I bought my first record and living in the Nurses home at East Birmingham Hospital. I hadn't got a record player so borrowed one from Sue who lived in the room opposite. It was Dionne Warwicks' Walk on By' I played it long and loud and drove everyone crazy. Loved it Lynda:)

What a great picture!!! We always spoke of shopping as 'going up the village'. Can't remember it being like that, and yet spent all of my youth and young adulthood there. Lovely memories. Thanks for that. Lynda.

    Robinsons of Digby Street

My Grandmother was a Robinson and came from a large family in the Aston area, but they originated in Arley and then Kings Norton before Aston Vicarage Road.. Not the same branch, but mention it because they were such a close and loving family, who left me with very happy memories. Lynda:)

    Lyons Tea Shop

I used to work at the Lyons in Bull Street. It was a long time ago now, when I was about 16 I think. I worked on a Saturday, as I stayed on at school before going as a Student Nurse at East Birmingham. I remember that it was a lovely place to work. I cleared tables and stacked the dishwasher...
