    Valspar paints

I sprayed a few old bangers with Valspar years ago, lasted well - or at least, as long as the old cars - and had an instant shine. thinned with white spirit for spraying it took a good few days locked in the garage to dry though.

    Tastes Of The Past

Had a few late night fry ups in the Tow Rope after Barbarellas closed. Cant remember what coffee they sold, but from what I remember of the place it wasnt the Coffee that was camp !

136 Cattell Rd by Marquis of Lorne

Other memories of the area, from around 1959 - 1964. The Chips shop solf Faggots and Peas, you had to take your own bowl. Later it was owned by a foriegn guy called Tony, posibly Greek or Italian. Nice bloke, he used to give me chips in exchange for piles of newspapers, so I went there even...

136 Cattell Rd by Marquis of Lorne

Got no photo's, but if I remember right, and if it helps there was a Chip shop next doorto the pub, and a sort of general store next to that, possibly named Richardsons, cant really remember. But it was open quite late, and Sundays etc, and sold pretty well everything. I dont emember the houses...

    Chapel House St. No.s 13 & 18

Can anyone tell me where abouts No.s 13 & 18 Chapel House St, Deritend were, around 1904 in relation to the Junction with Green St and Bone Yard ? and was it still only around 50 yards long, or did it include some of Birchall St at the time ? A map would be a great help.

    Brummie sayings & language

When I was little, the usually cheerful lady who used to look after me during the school holidays had a large wall clock that chimed. Every now and again, on the hour she would say something like "Three O Clock, and nobody's dead" Dunno if it was just her saying, seems a bit strange, wonder...

    Think Tank

I was getting excited then, thought there was a new science museum I hadnt heard about. Never heard that area called Eastside before. Think Tank or whatever its called isnt a patch on the old Science Museum. I attended an open day at the depot in Cato St last summer, couldnt help but recognise...

    Items that have faded away

    Items that have faded away

I think back in 1972 or73 5% would have been considered strong in the UK. There were not so many lagers around back then. Most people either drank Mild or Bitter.

    Items that have faded away

Remember Colt 45 and Breaker Malt beers. Canned Beers of the 70s that always made me a bit agressive. seemed really strong at the time compared to others, but dunno what the % of alchohol was.

    Saltley Secondary School

Have you thought of emailing copies to the school, I bet the headmistress would be really interested. Parts of the shool have hardly changed by the look of some of those pictures.

    hurst st

Nice. I hadnt realised that Mathews was still there in the 90s. I used to haunt that shop, the one over the road (Radio Centre) and Norman H Fields in the 60s.

    Brummie sayings & language

`Having a swill` meaning a wash is one i aint heard for ages. And calling somebody 'Mucker' or even 'Me old mucker' seems to come up in books where a Brummie is speaking, dont think I've ever heard it for real though.

    Worst car of the 1960's

The firm I worked for hired me a Simca to use while my company car was being repaired, I thought they were great, all 3 of them - 3 in a fortnight cos they kept breaking down that is - quick and nice to drive though. I do remember they were hired from George Heath Motors at Hay Mills, and the...

    Green Lane Swimming Baths

iirc, Schools used the pool with the curtain, I cant remember ever paying to go in that part, the other pool had cubicles but you had to leave your clothes in a basket in a seperate room, not secure at all - my shoes got nicked once ! The diving boards were removed just around when I first...
