Cheers Mike, I think you and Lyn have nailed it.

    Air raid shelters

I haven't got a cellar, only a sub-level pantry - looks like I'll be fried when the impending bomb lands on my roof. ;)

    Air raid shelters

Sounds feasible Lyn, a way out of the cellar perhaps.

    Air raid shelters

Does anybody know the role of these small brick structures that were dotted around Birmingham. They were only big enough for a child to enter, or perhaps it was for the air-raid warden to take cover, though it would be a tight squeeze?

    Camp Hill

Er, this is the removal of the flyover not the "building of the flyover" - but thanks for posting

    Camp Hill

In addition to some well-known images, I have posted a couple more photos that are, to the best of my knowledge, previously unpublished. See : https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/camp-hill/

    Holy Trinity Church Bordesley.

Not having visited the site for a while, I cannot say what is left. However, a fair-sized portion of the graveyard was excavated when they created the Middleway - how Birmingham has liked to prioritise the motor car. I also have to point out that many of the headstones and memorials were...

    Camp Hill

Nearly but not quite. The post-office was towards the left of this postcard view. The building to the right, however, almost certainly occupied part of the site used for the original school building. It was formerly the residence of the surgeon Henry Cox.

    The Wheatsheaf, Suffolk Street

'fraid so Mike. The Internet is a great thing but it is people who ruin it. I have had to address serious breaches of copyright that got quite ugly. Despite winning the battle, I find myself having to rebuild the site with new security features and, sadly, plastering images with script and...

    Camp Hill

Lyn, you cannot have looked properly .. I have uploaded a few images of the bridge being constructed in a DIFFERENT location BEFORE it was erected between High Street Bordesley and Camp Hill. These images are not featured on the thread you mention.

    Camp Hill

I was tinkering a bit with Camp Hill during MOTD and, before hitting the wooden hills, I thought this photograph may interest some, particularly those interested in engineering : https://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/birmingham/camp-hill/index.html#Test I believe this to be a rare image in that it...

Thanks Steve for your kind comments. A response like yours makes it worthwhile. Believe it or not, I don't get many messages like this so it is good for morale. Glad you enjoyed the history of the Villa Tavern. Cheers, Kieron

Thanks for your kind words Lyn. Yes, it does take ages to compile such a page and now I have started podcasts it take even longer! Actually I can believe it - I went to Smethwick archives just before Christmas as they have the newspaper title I wanted to look at, well one edition in particular. They had every edition apart from the one I wanted to see. This happens to me all the time. I'm cursed.
