    Henry Garner

Garners and the associated buildings were demolished in the early 1960s and replaced by "Moneywise" fronting Alcester Road with offices above and a snooker hall at the back. Moneywise was a great emporium for bargains of all sorts. We were very sorry to see it go. That said it was a very ugly...

    Typhoo Tea Bordesley Street Digbeth

Although no longer in Birmingham, always sad to see the end of a local icon. Famous tea firm Typhoo on brink of collapse as drinkers switch to coffee Typhoo - one of Britain's oldest tea makers and famous for its 'only get an OO with Typhoo' ad slogan from the 80s - is set to appoint...

    Black Sabbath

The Black Sabbath Bridge: I came across this extraordinary website called the "Black Sabbath Bench" at https://blacksabbathbench.co.uk/ . The bench is situated on the "Black Sabbath Bridge" on Broad Street and was installed in 2019 and renovated earlier this year. Don't think it has been...

    Heathfield Road, Kings Heath

Many thanks for information. To sum up[I think]: The large attractive building at 23 etc was built about 1910 for Ten Acres and Stirchley Co-op. Slightly surprised at its size and position so far from the High Street. TASCOS was one of the most successful co-ops with over 50 branches in...

    Conybere Street Highgate

Conybere Street 1960: Not sure if this has been posted before. But David F. Wiseman & Sons was based at 145 Conybere Street from at least late 1930s and listed as plumbers. Also later had premises on Moseley Road. Next door were the premises of H. Stanley Bleyer [Impex Works]. who I think...

    312 Bradford Street, Digbeth

Our latest parish magazine contains x4 pictures of church processions in 1913 including this one in Conybere Street showing the Rollo Car Co. Works. Help needed please.

Could also try Birmingham City Council burial records site at https://birminghamburialrecords.co.uk/ Searches are free but costs £10 for print out of record. Covers burials/cremations in all BHam cemetaries but I have found older records a bit hit and miss.

    Street furniture

Attached street view of sign post at the junction of the High Street/Vicarage Road in Kings Heath. I have a phot I took over 50 years ago and it has been repainted and original black on white signs have been replaced. Preferred the original. Rather oddly "Wolverhampton" has also been added. -

    Weoley Castle - Alwold Road

The Library Consultation 2024 finished on 23 July. The original guidance for the consultation can be seen at https://www.birminghambeheard.org.uk/adults-communities/lc24/ I was saddened at the time to read such a load of misleading, irrelevant nonsense. The next stage is stated as: "Next Steps...
