    Smiths Victoria Brewery

I think early BHam breweries often used boreholes. In 1922 Smiths sunk another borehole to supplement water supply. Taken over by Butlers in 1955.

    Smethwick

I suspect that big business in Smethwick thought they would have more influence and profit as part of Victorian Birmingham. Politics! Nothing changes.

    Smethwick

Hi Lemonella, This is from Smethwick Local History Website - well worth looking at. Modern local government in the town [ie Smethwick] began in 1856 when a local board of health was set up. In 1888 Birmingham was planning to extend its boundaries by annexing several adjacent parishes...

    Smethwick

It nearly was! There was a suggestion for Smethwick to become part of Birmingham in 1888 but vote was deafeated by the narrowest of margins by the castting vote of the chairman NB: Don't forget that Smethwick was part of Harborne Parish for centuries.................. Holy Trinity was called...

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

There are usually two lanes from Moseley Village up Wake Green Road - inside lane for straight on, outside lane is a filter lane for turning right up Oxford Road. Inside lane closed at present. It only needs one car to stop/signal right-turn, to block the only lane and traffic comes to a...

Moseley Tea & Honey Shop ?

The photograph in the pub is probably from an old postcard and is clearly labelled Moseley. That said I still cannot trace location.............

    Moseley Kings Heath Line

I don't think there is any doubt that the line will open! Most of the funding is available & not reliant on BCC funding. Kings Heath Station - platforms look nearly finished. Moseley Station - lots of work going on, causing chaos on main road with partial road closure. I suspect that's nothing...

Wright & Hodgkin, 9 Vyse Street.

Company name was Wright& Hadgkiss; This may be of interest: The well-known house for cheap diamond work, Messrs. Wright & Hadgkiss, Vyse Street, are extending their premises, and making room for another eight workmen. They make a cheap class of diamond work of pretty design at popular prices...

    Showell Green Lane

The original Showell Green House was the home of William Russell and his family. He was a highly successful business man and very influential in the life of Birmingham. He had offices at the house as well as stables and I think you are right to suggest these buildings may well be them The...

    May & Co Engine Maker

I couldn't agree with you more. Links with Birmingham Industry and entrepreneurs are everywhere you look. Just looking at the history of Blackpool Tower and blow me, guess who made the steelwork? The same engineering company who made the steel girders for the original Austin Works! It was Heenan...

    Medals

Only just read this thread about campaign medals and rather dismissive view on them. My dad was a merchant seaman and served throughout the war. Of the 88 Company ships 41 were sunk, mainly during the Battle of the Atlantic. Dad was sunk of one occasion but rescued and he witnessed many ships...

    IN OUR GARDENS 2025

Murder in the garden! As usual put some seed out for birds and squirrels. Within minutes x2 pidgeons, x2 magpies and the inevitable x5 sqirrels. Next minute like a streak of lightning a fox shot down the whole length of the garden and snatched a squirrel in its jaws and took it up the garden -...

    Lombard Works (brass casting)

Some adverts from the 1920s - may be of interest? They also had a London office and showroom at the time. Adverts mention that they also made rims for motor bikes & sidecars and prams.

    Silver Street depot

This is the "turning circle" just past the Knob. Bit of confusion of what it was for. It was originally the bus terminus for a time before route extended to Maypole and beyond. I remember the old fashioned cast iron bus stop. Was there also a time clock there? Not sure but would make sense...

    Silver Street depot

As mentioned International Stock demolished in 2022. Sheltered housing built on the site. Found these phots on Google of original tram shed [1889] and layout. These were origimally posted on "Birmingham Forum" back in 2009 and worth looking at for description.
