Jay Blades : The Midlands Through Time

What a thing for a guide to do, she should be ashamed of herself. I would have suggested a trip to The Black Country Living Museum as well, what a pity it is that the museum & art gallery is still closed and will be until next year, another "must see" in my opinion.

Jay Blades : The Midlands Through Time

I guess it's a bit like us not calling it "Landan", when we are down there  . Nice to see Carl Chinn get some time on this week's show, which might well reach and enlighten a few people from outside the Midlands, on our proud local history.

    Cambridge Street car park

Yes indeed, there are some super sleuths on this site, who seek to resolve member's queries by using their extensive local knowledge and by knowing where to seek the appropriate resource information. I much appreciate the expertise and experience of the team as a whole, as a comparative new boy...

    Pubs in Erdington

It is good that the owners of the pub, have now been made aware of how locals feel about the importance of this pub being kept open.

    Another pub fire

Different yes, potentially with no motive other than "why not, we will get away with it", but it's still arson and this sort of fire has happened all too often. As Lyn has rightly said @ #5, "when is this pointless vandalism going to stop.."

    Corporation Street

At first glance, I thought that the lady in the dark coat, at the back of the bus queue, was talking into a mobile phone!

    Another pub fire

I wonder what the odds are of the arsonist being found. Perhaps it would make them think twice, if one of these sick individuals was actually charged with the crime they have committed, rather than doing it in the knowledge that they are almost certain never to be apprehended. You have to wonder...

I think the developers operate the "Field of Dreams" policy: A good film by the way. ;)

Letter to Birmingham Commissioners on safeguarding heritage

The longer the council delays making a decision, the larger their debt grows and I wonder if the following may make interesting reading for city councillors? "Local authorities should be able to sell an unused, unneeded or duplicate item from one of their museums in order, for example, to...

    Michael Gambon.

Michael Gambon in Othello at the Birmingham Rep in 1968 and on Top Gear in 2002 (which led to a corner on their test track being named "Gambon Corner") RIP Sir Michael:

    Michael Gambon.

Agreed, perhaps BBC 4 (the best BBC channel by a distance imo) will show something in the coming days/weeks.

    I doubt it.

    Smallbrook Ringway

Geoffrey Yap, joint chair of the Birmingham Chinese Festival committee, spoke in favour of the demolition. He said: "When I see the Ringway Centre I see a symbol of Birmingham, which was a car-dominated city. We no longer want this. In 2023, the city will be very different." Who doesn't...
