    Christmas preparations past and present

Kraft Rarebit were the slices of cheese that the Co-op sold Viv and there were 8 slices in the pack, as I recall, obviously intended for those that could not be trusted to cut a piece of cheese off with a knife ;) :

    Social security office Beacon Hill

Not quite Greg, I was transferred (for a nominal fee ;)) to work down in that there London in 1984. Thanks for reminding me of those grey metal filing cabinets and those codes, rules and regulations, their mere mention, brought back many a happy memory to this retired civil servant (give me a...

    Stockland pub closed down

What a pity to see another well known Erdington pub close. I had hoped it would continue to trade as a public house after it changed from a Chinese Buffet "Modern China" to "The Village Green" and sold it's bowling green for flats, but Birmingham Live now reports that "question marks hangs over...

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

I did and also reported it as Spam. It was clearly a scam, I just thought that I would highlight it as something that is currently being sent, should anyone else receive this or something like it.

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Just had this warning from Waterstones, which is a good reminder during this "Black Friday" weekend. I bought some books from them online last week (I still didn't click below though...better safe than sorry) ;): Dear Customer, The massive popularity of Black Friday offers opens a door to...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

My Dad had a till exactly like that it was a "National" and he swapped it for a till that had been converted to the decimal system, I'm sure the chap that took it off our hands got the best of the deal. The new "second hand" till was just like Arkwright's, it slammed shut so quickly and it's a...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I went to the Ben from the mid 70s until it closed as a pub and to the Turks from the late 70s until it too closed down Lyn. I remember that the Burma Star Association used to hold their meetings at the Turks and that both pubs were an integral part of the Aston University students regular pub...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I agree, I understand that it is a Grade A listed building, so they would struggle to get it demolished, although that doesn't always prevent a demolition...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

The Ben Johnson has now become BRGRI on ground level (a purveyor of "premium smashed burgers" as well as the odd milk shake) and King Edward Apartments (12 "prestigious and luxurious" exclusive student rooms @ £150pw). Oh for the days and nights, when it was a jolly good pub!

Scams: telephone, email, texts 2023, 2024

Lyn, you could check with your bank by telephone, to see if they have e-mailed you (assuming they have your e-mail address to do so), but as Mike has suggested, better safe than sorry, particularly if you rarely if at all, receive e-mails from your bank.
