    Royal Coronations : Birmingham response

I found these photos of the Coronation Celebrations in Blakenhale Infants School playgroundin Outmore Road. They aren't very good quality I'm afraid but maybe good enough to spot yourself or a family member. I will try and scan them in if I can get my scanner to work. Malcolm.

Central Grammar, International School Tile Cross

I'm afraid I don't recognise him from the photo but that could be down to a 68 year old memory. I seem to recollect the name Steve Rhodes but again I don't recognise the photo. Sorry! Malcolm Robinson

Central Grammar, International School Tile Cross

FlaxleyGirl, Hi, it could have been. I was born in 1952 and joined Central when I was about 11 3/4, which would have been September 1963. I was in Mr Davidson's class 1S when I joined. Obviously, that was a long time ago and if it was your brother Robert not Malcolm, I do apologise for getting...

3 back 153 latimer street Emma Mountford

Hi, my great grandparents ran a small shop out of their converted front room at 76 Cregoe Street, a sort of a grocers come sweet shop. He was William Robinson, she was Georgina. Over the years William lived in Latimer Street, Ryland Road and Cregoe Street. I have attached three photos of what...

    Cregoe Street

This is an extract of an 1889 map of Cregoe Street, you will see the numbers are consecutive the odd ones on the left hand side. They are not all numbered but you should be able to work out number 49.

    Shadwell Street

Thank you, it's really nice to get a feeling of what the buildings and houses were like inside. You house sounds like the one my dad was brought up in, in Green Lane, Small Heath. Fortunately, when I was born in 1952, they had moved to a new council house in Garretts Green. Malcolm

    Shadwell Street

Mike, Thank you for puuting up the 1950's map. It looks like the buildings that my great grand father lived and ran his business from the 'gun barrel works' from the 1889 map, where still standing in some form in the 1950s. I didn't discover anything about him until relatively recently so this...

    Shadwell Street

Pauljon I am intrigued now. If you look at the street map on my post #37, I assumed the crossed lines between house 8 & 9 signified an entry to the yard and therefore the same would apply to the lines between house 10 & 11 opening up into Court 2. I have a attached a slightly blown up version...

    Shadwell Street

pauljon Looking at the map you lived right nextdoor to my great grandfathers business, although I have to say he sold up in 1899 to Webley & Scott; just a tiny bit before your time I guess!! Were the houses No 9 & 8 still standing when you were there? It looks like my great grandfather ran his...

    Blakenhale Junior School

When i was looking through some old photos I found a couple of the Coronation Celebrations held at Blakenhale School. I will try and dig them out and post them. One with a group of gentlemen dressed as women and comical characters has already been posted on here somewhere. I don't know why we...

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

On the 15th May 1972, I saw Slade and Status Quo on a double bill at the Top Rank Suite in Dale End. It was an exhausting but brilliant night. I met a lovely girl there who let me borrow her check jacket. After the (very) late end of the show I walked her back to somewhere near Saltley Gate...

    Shadwell Street

I am so late finding this thread I hope someone is still looking after it. My great grandfather Charles Ford owned a gunmaking business at No 8 Bath Street (about 1870 - 1901). It is directly opposite the Gunmakers Arms. I have been searching everywhere for a photo of it. Unfortunately, all the...

    Park Lane...Aston

I was just having a quick look around to see if I could find anything on Parliament Street to pay you back for the help you have given me. I found a great article on a Preserving Aston site. It was by a chap called Leroux, who from the article I realise you must know very intimately. So I gave...

    Park Lane...Aston

Thank you. I know a fair bit about them, I have managed to get birth certificates & wedding certificates and census and electoral roll stuff etc. But it bits of gold like the photos you sent me of Park Lane and memories of people who lived in the area and may even have known them which you can't...

    Park Lane...Aston

Again thank you, it's another great photo thank you. I have been hunting down the Fords for a long time. My great, great, great grandfather, also Charles Ford was a gun barrel manufacturer at 8 Bath Street and in 1899 his business was bought out by Webley & Scott, for £12,250 which is the...

    Park Lane...Aston

I really can't thank you enough for the map and especially the photo. To actually see the front door he walked through is brilliant. I just about remember my great grandfather Charles Ford. He was born in 1878 and fought in the Boer War and WW1, serving with the Coldstream Guards. When he was...

    Park Lane...Aston

I wonder if you know which way the houses were numbered and if any of the photos people have posted are of the end where No 27 was. I think it may have been the Barton Arms end but I'm really not sure.

    Park Lane...Aston

I have only just picked up this thread. My great grandfather Charles Ford lived at No 27 Park Street. I believe he lived there until the mid-50's when he went to live with his daughter in Alum Rock. He was a gun barrel filer and worked for Webley & Scott.
