The date of birth was not on death certificates until much later than 1935, it will only be his age, and that is according to who registered the death. Sometimes errors occur.
Thanks Mike, that concurs with what I was told yesterday, although I did think as the man who told me was 98 there may have been a few mistakes, but he was right on this one. What a pity they are not there now.
Thank you Mike. The person I am speaking about died in 1949, but I have met his grandson today (he is 98 in November). He and his wife have an oriental vase which came from Liberty's - it was smashed but has been restored. I don't know what years his grandfather worked for Liberty's but he...
I am not sure if this was a shop or just a warehouse, but Liberty's of London was in Birmingham earlier in the 1900's. Can anyone tell me where it was please? I am given to understand New Street. I have found out today that one of my family worked there.
Balsall Heath was not Birmingham at that time, so it may be that they are not buried in Birmingham at all. St Mary's Church, Moseley is where I have been pointed to in the past for Balsall Heath burials. I did not have chance to do a check on mine, so I cannot verify. I was told this by...
Hi Astonian
It was the Vic Soc who stopped the Grand being demolished, so they might just pull this one off too. People do take notice these days, although not always. We have a lot to thank the Vic Soc for.
Well, one thing in its favour Lyn is that it is now and the Woodman was quite a long time ago. I could get quite angry at the destruction of Birmingham, but it's energy wasted as there is nothing we can do now. If the pub does have to come down, and the fittings are saved, although they may go...
I think the Council should be ashamed! I really would love to know just WHO is on the committee that destroys - are they Brummies by heritage or not? I think I could make a good guess at the answer. For the greater good - my elbow, it all boils down to money and also possibly someone wishing...
I used to travel from Snow Hill to Stourbridge regularly, between 1960 and 1962, but I cannot say I remember large waiting rooms with bars - the only waiting rooms I knew were on the platforms. I wonder if these were in the Hotel rather than the station?
Bewdley - thank you very much for this, I did not expect anything like this at all. It does look like he moved around a little bit.
Mike - thank you again, I was looking for the phone books myself yesterday, having seen them before, but I was searching under 'telephone' not 'phone'.
Hi Leslam, I hd thought of looking in the phone book, the man who lived there was, according to his father's probate record, a Post Office engineer, so I am rather of a mind that he would have a phone. I shall do that next time I go into Birmingham. i presume as these are on 'open shelves'...
Thanks, Mike, for your input, however, I am not entirely happy thinking it is Cofton Hackett. I shall look into this further.
I know Alvechurch which is next door to Cofton and I am mindful of the fact that both are Worcestershire, and not Birmingham which was Warwickshire. West Heath has...
Sandra, What address in Sutton Coldfield did she die at? I am thinking the distance between the two places is considerable - at least with the transport available at that time. I would have thought it quite likely she was buried in Sutton itself.
Yes Carolina. His son lived there afterwards and was there I believe until his death in 1962. I think you have mentioned this before Carolina. I expect they knew each other, even if only just to say 'good morning.'
Thank you Dib44 and all those who looked. The only thing troubling me is that Cofton Hackett is B45, whereas he has stated B31. The houses look the right age to be where he lived, but rather more than I expected, I thought they would be your average semi. I think this might require further...
Phil - I meant the informant's address, not the man who had died. (169 is almost opposite the gates of Witton Cemetery). It looks like 11 Private Road, West Heath.
