    Science Museum Newhall Street

Seems such a long time ago now. My dad Keith worked at the museum for over 30 years. He passed away in December 2019, but both my dad and the museum are fondly remembered.

Absolutely! This roller was owned by Steve Arrowsmith, who sold it to Robert Bates of Wolverhampton. Steve later attended the science museum rallies with a Fowler roller named 'Bacchus'.

This is a wonderful shot taken by the Evening Mail in May 1978. Roadworks by the museum meant the rally had to move further up Newhall Street that year, but as can be seen from the crowds it was certainly another very busy and enjoyable steam rally. 1979 saw the event move back to it's usual...

!960, the first traction engine rally in Newhall Street with 7 engines taking part. A great tradition for every second Sunday in May, which saw 1995 being the last year it was held. So many wonderful memories of helping my dad and his fellow Science museum colleges at the rally and March and...

And finally one from 1970. The engine generating power for the Wonderland organ here (Burrell scenic showman's loco "Winston Churchill"), also now resides with the Marchington family in Suffolk.

Top photo is 1975, three shots from 1982. The beautiful Wonderland 98 Marenghi organ playing her tunes. The organ now resides with the Marchington family in Suffolk after being sold by previous owner Bill Hunt for a whopping £450,000 a few years back.

Hi Sue, some photos from the Newhall Street rally would be lovely to see. My father worked at the Science Museum for many many years and the annual May Traction rally was definitely one of the most fondly remembered times of my life. I always admired your Grandfather's Foden tractor "Matilda"...

Fingers crossed, but I wouldn't be surprised if all steam rallies, outdoor events are cancelled till 2022.

    Science Museum Newhall Street

Thanks Lyn. My heart is well and truly still with the Science Museum. Had the best years of my life working there at the steam weekends, rallies and other events. It's no surprise that "Busy Bee" shown here was my fave exhibit. This shot is when we were giving the thirsty girl a fire hydrant...

Some more shots from various Newhall Street e rallies 1969 - 1992. A selection of Science Museum rally programmes also pictured. The mighty Wonderland 98 key organ that attended nearly all of those rallies owned by Bill Hunt of Oldbury. It was sold in 2008 for a whopping £450,000 to the...

    Science Museum Newhall Street

heres the 1904 Foden at the 1969 Tyseley Railway steam rally. My dad, Ray Morris and Mick Newland were the steam technicians at the Science Museum who regularly steamed engines at the March/October Steam Weekends and the annual May rally. As far as I'm aware the Foden was last steamed in 1973...
