Drews Lane Factory Washwood Heath

A UXB from that raid landed underneath my grandparents house in Bromford Lane. However one of my uncles who was in the Anderson shelter in the garden said he heard two 'thumps' a few seconds apart, and there were two holes in the ground, one at the front of the hose and one at the back. They were evacuated whilst the bomb was made safe. Both holes were filled in but only one bomb was defused. My uncle always maintained that there was still a UXB down there!

They were tough times. My dad was made redundant when he was no longer a useful asset. But he enjoyed all his time there because of the history and old time family feel of each factory. The business was caught in a government cleft of nationalisation and world commerce. They failed on both branches, hence the loss of British Industry.

Worked at Drews lane 1971 on quality control of axles & steering, after big panic when over tightened cover plates fell off the ADO 16 steering racks. Anyone Remember Dickie Bunn, Arthur Amos (whose mother worked at Drews lane during the war on munitions.). Raymond Greaves, Tony Turfrey. Looking at all the Pub photos I trying to recall those that I saw the late great Raymond Froggatt perform- great days.
