Anyone any idea where this old Jewellery Quarter Pub, The Store, is/was situated...? A map woud be greatly appreciated mike? Thanks..

Its on the corner of Summerhill and Powell Street. Coming from Monument to the island with Springhill Library on the left take a right turn into Summerhill and The Stores would be on the left hand side.

The Summer Hill Stores, 401 Monument Road, Ladywood

’Ow do muckers – wondering if any of you good folk out there have any gen on an old boozer in Ladywood that one of me family ran? It was at 401 Monument Road and was run by Alfred Henry Causier. Here’s the entry from the 1901 census with Alfred as a “Publican”, along his family living there...

It was there in 1871. Birmingham Daily Gazette, Friday 2nd June 1871, tells of transfer of the licence from Benjamin Woodhouse to Charles Idens.

Must have been a bit of a mixed bag there. the 1873 whites directory lists no 24 with three inhabitants, charles Idiens, beer retailer, Richard James Starling, hosier and George wallace Hill, grocer

We've discussed these intitals before on the Ghost Signs thread. They're 'HBL' - Holders Brewery. Each pillar around the building has this monogram at the top.The building is starting to look more and more abandoned.

While working in George St , I did occasionally visit the King Edward PH bottom of Summer Row and the Parade purely medicinal you understand . the Gaffer there was achap name Jim Noonan I think it was , definitely Jim anyway . Anyway his brother Bert used to manage The Stores in the 70's

A good view of The Stores on Summer Hill Terrace, at the junction with Powell Street. I wonder if the 'Stores' sign still exists under the boarding over the entrance door ? If so, the boarding may have preserved it, hopefully.

The terraced houses to the right have now gone.
