Mary Street Hockley

At first I was dubious as to the attribution of this photo, which was labelled "Rear of gun making workshop at 31 Mary Street 1966"

It could not be the Mary Street in Balsall Heath (as 31 would have been on site of Mary Street School) But had not thought of around Caroline Street as being into gun making, though not far from the gun quarter. But after eliminating the possibility of the two Mary roads and Mary Ann Street it seems that it was there. THe 1950s map shows no 31 with an area behind it, and Streetview shows a renovated front of 32 which certainly looks similar to the back wall in the photo

And in my files I found an older view of the outside, which looks even more like it

Looking at directories, from at least 1962 to 1966 31,32 are occupied by firms described as doing heat treatment. I suppose this could be something to do with gun components
