I'm fairly certain that this photo shows the front of No. 56.My great grandfather, Thomas Cross lived with his family in Heneage Street in the 1920s. They lived at 3/56 which was the back to back houses, next to the Star Works factory. It would be interesting to see any more photos of the street.
Thank you for these photos. May I ask what characteristics in the photo makes you believe it is No. 56?I'm fairly certain that this photo shows the front of No. 56.
There are 3 shops and then an entry to the court behind, No. 56 is the shop just before this entry. No. 58 (or possibly 59) is set back from the frontage, I couldn't find a similar arrangement on the rest of the street.Thank you for these photos. Amazing, it was only until I looked at the 1899 map instead of the 1945 one it finally made sense. I thought I was a good investigator, but you're on the next level. So if this is indeed correct, the building in the center of the photo doesn't exist by 1945/1950s, but 56 indeed remains. There are 3 shops and then an entry to the court behind, No. 56 is the shop just before this entry. No. 58 (or possibly 59) is set back from the frontage, I couldn't find a similar arrangement on the rest of the street.
On the left of the first shop there appears to be some sort of access to No. 57, this can be seen on the 1899 map attached,
Hope this helps.
