hi ladylinda
i was just wondering whether or not could mr and mrs whetton be of the same people or of the same family that kept the sweet shop on lichfield rd aston inthe fortys and fiftys and up to about fifty five
as there was whetton sweet shop and selling penny lemonades and fizzy out of a little old fashiponion machine
i used to get my american gums and pinapple rock sweets from them ;
best wishes alan astonian;;

Alan I used to work with a Johnny Whetton in the sixties?. Sumlock Comptometer. He was engaged to Carol White. Jean.

Have seen the photo below attributed as bing a shop run by Hands at 324 Green Lane. It is true that a Bert Hands is listed in Kellys for 1949 and 1950 as being a shopkeeper there. But the photo shows a shop run by R(?) M.Hands, and is a Grocers. Grocers are normally listed as such, not as shopkeeper. The lettering on the efascia looks quite old (>10 years), and the shop certainly appears to be on a corner, whereas the map shows that 324 is definitely not on a corner.

hi amanda have you seen the photograph of the shop its on post 6 ?
lyn
Yes I did but it odd cuz that corner shop had hands above the door, but its R and M hands, also my grandads shop was 324 green lane, and it was called breeze , I’m hoping to get a photo of him in or out side the shop x

It’s a bit weird how there was 2 hands shops in the same row
Looking at the erolls over the years you can find the surname "Hands" at quite a variety of different numbers in Green Lane. Not sure if they were related or not.

For example 1945

Do you know of an Agnes whetton , married name hands ?

If you notice - under Astonian's avatar it says "gone but not forgotten". This indicates he has sadly passed away.
I know he’s passed away and so has Agnes, I’m trying to get a photo of them both or Bert, and find Jill as she’s my mum’s half sister xx
