My husband was born and brought up in Couchman road.

One of my Mothers day presents was 'The streets of Brum' by Carl Chinn

In the name changes
Couchman road was previously Castle street,

There was a Couchman Road,Garrison Lane until 1879 which became Barwell Road.

As it was usual to call Castle Street because of the Castle there can anyone tell me anything about the former Castle street,Alum rock.

Hi Alberta, Just picked up on this thread, I was also born in Couchman Road No 111 which is the Anthony Road end do you know what No your husband was born at, I lived there from 1948 until 1956 when we moved to Garrison Lane not far from Barwell Road but was unaware that Barwell Road was formally Couchman Road. Must get ' The Streets of Brum'. Happy Days Mickyd.

Hi Alberta, I remember many happy visits to Steve's house in Couchman Rd. His parents and sister were very nice and kind people to me at a time in my life that was a little lets say not so good. I often looked after his Niece who was also one of the bridesmaids at my sister's wedding, she was only 4... a start to my future career working with young children.

A view of Couchman Road at the junction with College Road. The premises on the right on College Road were once occupied by the Birmingham Cooperative (Branch 20). In recent times, the front seems to have been modified, but you can still see the victorian features on the side wall on Couchman Road.
