Can anyone tell me when Holbrooks Picking Factory in Aston was bombed? Dad was on fire watching duty there that night and his mate was killed. He rescued Mom and her family who were sheltering in the basement.

Many thanks for the information. You have solved a question that has long remained in our family. Here is my mother Florence Wragg's account, as it was her family that was sheltering in Holbrook's basement. "We were in the cellars underneath the factory where they stored vinegar. The place was filling up with smoke. Jim (my father) led us out on to the side of a canal. The factory was just a shell in the morning. Jim's friend on the roof was killed." Mom and dad gave this interview to our local paper when they visited us in America in 1991. Dad was 20 at the time this happened and was called up in 1943. They wed in St Lawrence church 18 March 1944. Our family continued to live nearby in Great Brook Street where I was born in 1953.
