Obviously the signage refers to Henry, quite possibly the sign dates back to the 1930s. Originally a drapers, but changed to chocolates etc by the 1950s. The photo looks late 1940s/ early 1950s to me, so 20+ years later than Henry's time as draper.1962 eroll has a Thomas Hadley with Violet and Brian at 58 Cuthbert Road
Thomas and Gladys address on 1960 eroll is 40 Bellefield Road.

It was a sweet shop/ haberdashery when grandad gad it.just to confirm that jacqui said that her grandad thomas hadley and nan gladys ran a shop on the corner of bellfield road and cuthbert road...this would have been at no 38 cuthbert st ..on the 39 register at no 38 is arthur bell...his wife and family and arthur is down as a confectioner so this would be a sweet shop..also on the 39 reg as janice has said at no 71 is henry J hadley his wife and children...henry is down as jewellers diamond mounter..no 38 now gone but would have been on this corner

hi jacqui i would agree its not the bellfield road shop...it could be the shop at 71 cuthbert road...i take it your dad does not recognise the man and little girl in the photo ?So everyone... it appears this shop is not the one on the corner of bellfield road. I sent the photo to my dad he said their shop had the door on the corner of cuthbert road and their lounge and kitchen was to the right where the window is on this photo which looked onto bellfield road. This shop must be somewhere else but it wasn't my grandads shop.
sadly it just may remain a family mystery then..we all get themNo sorry
ok jacqui good luck with your family treeYes,I'm doing my family tree on ancestry I found this site by accident, hoping to find anything about my grandparents,I know they had a fish and chip shop but don't know where
