Hi. Apparently this was the first part of a pub sign from a pub on Horse Fair. I know there was a White Lion but I can only find fairly recent references to it and wondered if anyone had come across any references to pubs on Horse Fair that start with The!View attachment 195370

The Red Cow possibly.

The White Lion goes back some time, although the original building must have since been replaced by that seen today. The 'Old' White Lion must have existed well before this 1868 auction advert - only 9 years left on the lease.

The Red Cow Inn has a long history on Horsefair, going back to at least 1790. The photos below show a later building. This building was still there in the 1950s.
