Yes I have photo of no.59 where my mum was born in 1928 will add it to the chat but agree with Lyn on google street view you can see most of the road, am sure others photos exist back in time to today.

The following might be of interest ... the aerial view could be expanded to show more of Grosvenor Rd
Then and now aerial views of Westminster Road

Date 1920 and Trinity Rd church partially visible top left corner. Westminster Rd runs down the centre of the view with the school visible opposite the church. Grosvenor Rd at the bottom.

Today an aerial view shows Trinity Rd church top left. Westminster Rd school still there 100 years later but the church opposite has lost it's steeple.

My mum was born here in February 1928, her parents came from Wales, and my mum's sisters lived at 229 Church Hill Road, Handsworth.

I too went to Westminster road junior school Boys to the right girls to the left I was in the class of miss Box we used to call her pill box I think she knew. I lived in Westminster road at number 69 around about 4 or 5 houses past Putney road It was a detached house, Going back I see that it has been developed into flats now.It has just come to me the headmaster was a Mr Clayton. When I left that school I used to go back on a Saturdy night to the dances My name is Joe Allington Does anyone remember me ???
Joe, what years were you at Westminster Rd? I was there from 49 to 54 and seem to remember MR Clayton.

I lived in 153 Church Hill Road with mum and dad Dot and Cyril and brother Peter. Went to St Marys C of E school. Used to ride my three wheeler bike round 'the block' (Charles Raod?) pretending to be bus, stopping at every lampost! Also used to run my Matchbox cars along the smooth rendered wall of my grandads house on Westminster Road, behind 153. Grandad was Harry and had served in the Welch Fusiliers.

According to the Library of Birmingham the photograph below of the interior

"was taken sometime after the church opened in 1882. The church fell into disuse and combined with Union Row Congregational Church when the new church in Wilton Road was dedicated in 1969".

As the church fell into disuse, I presume that's why it was ultimately demolished. Viv.

I was a Wolf Cub at that church hall. The floors were wooden and all splintery so you best not slide on them as we all were wearing shorts!

I remember going to a Carol Service at Westminster Road Church when I was at Birchfield Road Juniors, I have a vague memory of it being recorded for the radio.

Thank you all for sharing your fond and valuable memories of this beautiful neighborhood. I grew up on Putney Road in the late 80s and early 90s.

The headmaster of Westminster Junior school at the time was a Mr. Neal (not sure if that's the correct spelling of his name).

When I was visiting an old friend recently, I was saddened to see how the roads and housing were in a poor state of disrepair.

Indeed it's changed somewhat!. My mum was born in 1928 at 56 Westminster Road and my 3 great aunts lived at the big house Westminster Villa 229 Church Hill Road. I drove through the area and yes very much rundown nowadays in fact before last week my last visit to the area was in 1976 when the last aunt died, and u remember Christmas 1961 and 63 at the villa too. I will sort out census details and birth certs of my relatives for site info . Thanks to all those posting photos from the prewar period. It helps my memories of old Birmingham.

Nb. My mum was Ceridwen Dean-Jones the family was originally from Hawarden in Flintshire Wales and the great aunts surname was Evans, I think Mollie, Mamie and Henrietta. All the aunts were teachers but I'm not sure where?. I'd love to go back over the old villa and see inside it sometime I remember it had servant stairs from attics to cellars.
