Colmore row

Hi guys,
I’m doing a project for University of Birmingham and need answers for a survey. If i were to do a public history exhibition on Colmore row, how would you want that to be done? E.g Photo exhibition, plaque, mural, graffiti etc etc. Any reply is appreciated!! Also why is the history of this road important to learn about as birminghams residents.

Please, whatever you do, don't make it graffiti! - a less appropriate place for graffiti would be hard to find. Murals have a sad history in Birmingham, they tend to last only a few years or be moved. Hated when they are first put up and then wistfully remembered in nostalgia a few years after they are destroyed. A brass plaque would only contain a fraction of the history of Colmore Row and a bigger acrylic one would be vandalised within weeks, scratched to bits. Might I suggest an online photo gallery and history of Colmore Row accessed by QR codes (maybe on metal panels for durability) placed on the many bus stops along the street, the foyer of the Grand Hotel, the bars and restaurants along the street and on the taxi-rank and entrances to Snow Hill station? - Then a bored passenger or interested tourist could read the whole history. Just a thought.

As to why the history of this area is so important - Research it and find out! It's got a fascinating history. Best of luck with your project.

I think plaques along the street telling the history of each building is a good idea. I like the QR thing too if I could figure it out. This road is important to me as a Birmingham resident because it holds a lot of history about the capitalist society in Birmingham. Also, it shows how active Birmingham is in the commercial landscape and how it always has - Birmingham is important!

Love the QR idea - very interactive. Colmore Row is important to me as a Brummie because it represents the importance of Birmingham as a commercial city, it is as important as London or Manchester. Sometimes Birmingham is overlooked but the history of our businesses are important and interesting.
