mark i would say yes they were taken on the snow hill side great photos...isnt that the old weslyan and general building corner of snow hill and colmore row. maybe someone could confirm that....just tried the link you posted but it does not work for me

I don’t remember those vans but it seems like a pretty good idea considering how few cars there were back in the day!
We had a more modern version at some point in my childhood but same idea. I used to love going over with my Mom. It meant she didn't have to carry heavy things like potatoes and carrots very far.
We also had a grocery version.

Janice, I think the CoOp mobile shop was in Birmingham as the lamppost certainly looks like a Birmingham version.

Found a very similar photo - perhaps even the same vehicle? It was labelled "Birmingham co-op had a huge fleet of mobile shops which served new estates and other areas with no branches. This example, seen in 1949, was probably fitted out by the society, and came with a handy roof rack for storing large items like sacks of potatoes". From Co-op News.
