lad in the lane fire last night

i agree jan..you would think with the loss of the crooked house more care would have been taken with security on this pub..very sad

We drove past it a few weeks ago and as has been said, it was an accident waiting to happen. Piles of rubbish left around the pub and the building, like too many others was left as a clear target for people who have nothing better to do with their time than to commit arson, in the safe knowledge that their chances of being caught are somewhere between exceedingly slim to none.

Anyone know the state of the building after the fire ? Two fires were started upstairs, so was the ground floor saved ?

watching the whole of the video they showed shots taken a year ago of the downstairs part and it looked to me as though all fixtures and fittings had been removed...looks as though a lot of work is needed to bring the pub back up to standard but its not impossible if acted upon quickly

Jack's great-great grandfather, Billy Garrity was recorded as the licenced victualler at Ye Olde Green Man the 1911 census. He was a footballer himself, playing for Villa from 1897 to 1908 and scoring 96 goals. He was Man of the Match in Villa's 1905 FA Cup Final win and played for England against Wales in 1903. From 1913 to 1931 he worked as a drayman at Ansell's brewery.

So sorry to hear this news. My parents used to frequent it many years ago when it was known as "The Green Man" and I would wait outside in the car. My Dad would bring me out a (very, very) weak shandy. At the time, we lived near the top of Erdington Hall Road, so I guess this was probably the nearest pub.
