Field Gate Farmhouse, Acocks Green

Great photos and having travelled along Yardley Road over many years , I'm certain that the building with the archway is on the site of the builder's yard. Looking back over previous posts, it seems the City Estates Officer made some attempt to find a user for the old building before seeking demolition approval. The Government's response states that no objections were made to the demolition proposal. What we don't know is how widely the application was advertised. Or perhaps we were not as vigilant or concerned about the loss of our heritage 50 years ago.

The advert is in Birmingham papers several times during 1977 - must admit I didn't check further afield.

This coal yard was operated by BCS/ Co-op until 1979. Found a pictures in "Acocks Green" by Michael Byrne p76/77 but buildings look late C19.

Following Lyn's email to Mike Hodder (if you don't know of him - he was formerly Birminhgham CC Archaeologist) - an update.
He has given Lyn a name to contact for more info but did send this from an archaeology newsletter from 1978.

(I am posting at it was part of a large document and Lyn wasn't able to copy it).

AGHS has a picture of Fieldgate Farm at the bottom of the Yardley Road page
