Brasshouse Lane.

I realize that this is not quite Birmingham but would anyone have a map of Brasshouse Lane from the Smethwick/West Bromwich area in the 1920s. My mother-in-Law was bought up at number 185 Brasshouse Lane. As far as she can recall it was a farm house, she remembers being there for most of her childhood. I would love to see any photos if there are any .. :love_heart:

Kellys does not list any numbers as high as 185 in Brasshouse lane, and the online electoral rolls do not include smethwick, but no 185 would have been on the east sside of the road right at the south end , near the canal. However the c1917 (and rather scanty c1936 map ) seem to show only factories. Are you sure it was 185? The c1917 map is below

I am sorry to say i have the address wrong. It was 189 Halfords Lane. My mother-in-Law attended Brasshouse Lane School. Do you have a map of Halfords Lane ??

Below is a map c 1917 of the area of Halfords lane around the junction with oxford rd. I'm afraid i cannot find my copy of the Alan godfrey map of that year, so the image is a bit blurred. No 188 Halford lane was north of the junction on the east side, and 191 was to the south. therefore no 189 must be one of the three buildings in red. As 88 was a garage, i would guess that this would probably be the building immediately north of the three red -marked buildings (marked in blue), which would make 189 the most northerly of the three.

As it seems a bit small, I have cut and enlarged it a little, but still blurry I'm afraid

Hello! I am curious about this same area. Sorry if that is not your area, perhaps you could direct me elsewhere. My grandmother lived at 64 Oxford Road, Smethwick in 1905 and 69 Kimberley Road in 1911. She left that same year (age 13) for Canada. I am trying to find information on a school she would have been going to at that time. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Search from Canada
