Henry Gould and the Pond family

Sam65

knowlegable brummie
I found out Henry Gould my relative born in Turkey 1836. Moved to Birmingham area. He was a gardener. Married Eliza Corbett born 1834 in Aston. Had 8 children including Ada Gould a press worker - my great great grandmother- Ada married Alfred Pond born 1869 who was an engraver. Ada was telepathic and would fortell events. Alfred’s parents are John Pond born 1830 in London - watchmaker and Mary Ann born 1832 in Hackney.
Anyone know the Turkish connection or more about any of the above ancestors.
Thanks

I think it might be a bit difficult for him to marry in 1834 , if he was born in 1836.

Well spotted thanks!
I’m not sure what year he married but his wife Eliza Corbett was born in 1836.

What makes you think he was born in Turkey?
I also haven't found him as a gardener.

Eliza was married previously, to a William Copper and it's possible that he is still alive when she is 'married' to Henry Gould which maybe why there is no marriage to Henry Gould. On the 1871 census the eldest 4 children listed as Gould were Copper and registered as such.

She appears to have been Mary Eliza and according to the 1851/1861 censuses she was born in Ireland,

I think saw the Copper reg and then had to stop looking.
Did you find a Turkey connection?

No, nothing I can see. Though I'm not sure about much for Henry.

I'm wondering if he was baptised Joseph Henry in Smethwick 1836, his birthplace is listed as such at least once.

Yes. I saw that baptism and wondered as his birthplace is Smethwick on census.

There is also a Henry Gould b 1834 baptised in Walsall but less likely given the Smethwick connection.

1901 census is the only one I can find which lists Turkey as a place of birth. Henry is staying with Ada and Alfred Pond. Also only one with occupation gardener.

I thought that. It is likely his son-in-law gave the info and I wondered if it was based on a tale he told the kids which got believed. Writing very neat and not misread.
I am trying to find him on 1911. To see what that says.

Possible death of Henry 1912 but haven't found him on 1911.
Think Mary Eliza died 1895 and death reg as Mary Eliza Copper

There's also a possible death Jun 1904 and for a Henry Gold Mar 1905 but none of the ages are really close.

Without a marriage to Mary (for his father) and the discrepancy in birthplaces difficult to know where/when he was actually born.

The two oldest Charles and Eliza seem to be with William Copper in 1871.
Not looked for the others. Apart from Ada who Henry is with in 1901

The marriage of Mary Corbett to William Copper was in birmingham in February 1847 and their first son registered William Corbett Copper was born in june quarter 1847
1861 census has William Copper age 34, married, lodger in Villiers Street with him is son William.
