Victor Yates MP for Ladywood

As a kid in and around Broad St I remember seeing his name on the bill posts around the place and the cars with the big speakers mounted on top as the hopeful councillor canvassed . If you were infirmed or had difficulty for transport some of the candidates allowed their cars to be used
 
There are bits of info on the Forum concerning Victor Yates, so having a thread of his own is a tribute. The Birmingham Post of January 1969 gives a lengthy obituary but summed up at the end by fellow Labour MPs. Dennis Howell says Victor’s whole life was devoted to public service, so lacking these days.
