    That's intriguing Mike, which directory is that in please? I've only seen the Post Office Directory in 1867 and his listing at 66 Weaman St in the Commercial Directory on p261, but hadn't see a Samuel Smith & Sons entry.

    Thank you. I quite agree and always err towards caution when identifying which Smith is which! I don't think so, I'm afraid. Fortunately my great-great grandmother had a distinctive set of initials which she generally used in full. So I am 99% sure the family was in Southwark in 1881 (at least...

    I'm researching my great-great grandfather Samuel Smith of 66 Weaman St in 1867. He listed himself as a Gun Barrel Maker in the Post Office Commercial Directory that year.
