    According to my mom, Elsie and her mother, Elizabeth, lived at 40 Handsworth New Road for a while so Elizabeth could help look after her grandchildren (she was very fond of Alice).

    Elsie had a boyfriend that went off to war. Before he went he wanted them to marry but she said no and wanted to wait. Tragically he didn't come back (and she missed out on the widow's pension) I think his name was Harry Hinton.

    He was my great grandfather. He worked in the jewellery quarter engraving gold jewellery.
