The single deck Leyland Tigers where lively motors, though in my 12 years at Selly Oak i never heard them referred to as Tigers,. The 4 Leyland Olympics at Selly Oak where often nicknamed Geeps/Jeeps. The low bridge at Cadburys necessitated the use of single deckers on the 27 route.

No problem, they where certainly easier to see on the waistrail, particularly when parked in rows in the depot, but the gold lettering was a nice touch.

A small and trivial point, but i think you will find the the numbers on the waistrail where in black. I was at Selly Oak depot when they moved them up from the bottom of one of the side panels and i cannot recall seeing them in gold.

I agree about the colours, this looks great. Most modern colour schemes on PSVs look like the result of someones drug induced nightmare.

ex Service Matadors sold in their hundreds after demob. Quite a few ended up as recovery vehicles with bus operators and garages. They where also extremely well suited to the timber industry. Most of the ex RAF Matadors where 6 wheelers, many being ex refueling tankers. Jabez Barker of...

There was one of these stationed at Harborne depot. I did several week ends at Harborne, overtime covering for staff shortages. Easy work, a bit of refueling, parking up, answering the phone etc. The Matador stood silent and imposing just waiting to go, a beautifully kept machine. I did get to...

Hi. Well i can't say i was a bus enthusiast then, but more of a transport enthusiast in general, though trucks where, and still are my main interest. I suppose buses where really trucks adapted to carry people instead of goods. I spent the whole of my working life, 50 yrs, in transport. I was at...

Hi Stitcher, sorry for the delay. No it was one of only 4 Olympics stabled at Selly Oak. they where a chassis less Leyland/MCW design with the engine mounted on its side amidships. Incidently i never heard the Leyland PS Tigers referred to as 'Tigers' in the 12 years i spent at Selly Oak . The...
